The Ladies section of West Herts Golf Club is an exciting and vibrant group within the Club that offers opportunities for members to get involved both competitively and socially. There is strong support from the ladies at the regular club events and a thriving Bridge section. We host an eclectic mix of boarded, non-boarded and fun competitions held weekly throughout the year which are very popular.
Ladies Day is on a Thursday and the Tee is reserved from 9.30 am. There are regular slots on Saturday or Sunday for the Weekend Ladies to be able to compete alongside their Thursday colleagues. There is also a weekly roll-up for friendly golf on a Tuesday at 11.30 am.
Competitive Club Golf
Our ladies have a full and varied schedule of competitions which includes regular Medal and Stableford qualifiers and the full day events of the Spring, Summer and Autumn Meetings.
There are two opportunities through the year to ‘show off’ West Herts to your golfing friends at the ‘Invitation Days’. You can invite your friends to come for the day, enjoy the golf course in a betterball competition and sample a tantalising menu.
West Herts prides itself on its traditions: We have a Lady Captain’s Prize Day and a Club Captain’s Day which are focal points of the year to support both the Lady Captain and the Club Captain.
West Herts golf course offers the opportunity to play thirteen holes; sometimes this is preferable in the winter months and consequently some of the competitions are played over this length. Of course there is always the option to just meet for lunch or play Bridge if the weather is really bad!
We have three competitive golf teams: the Scratch A team (which plays in the Herts Ovaltine League), the Scratch B team and the Pearson Team (which competes for the prestigious Pearson Trophy). These are both played in league form on a home and away basis. We also have eight weekend and ten weekday friendly matches throughout the summer months. These alternate yearly, home and away and post-match meals are provided for a modest fee by the hosting club.
Each year our ladies take part in the prestigious ‘‘Herts Bowl’’ competition which is a major event in our calendar. Contested between five local clubs (Berkhamsted, Bushey Hall, Sandy Lodge, Porters Park and ourselves) each club takes its turn to host the event. Four ladies are selected to play a medal round and the club with the lowest aggregate net score from its best three players on the day will hold the Hertfordshire Challenge Bowl for the year.
We also enter teams in some of the Hertfordshire County competitions: the Interclub Foursomes, Powell Cup & De Paula Cup to name a few. The ladies also compete in the Daily Mail Foursomes, Coronation Foursomes, Ping 4 ball betterball and Mail on Sunday competitions.
