The Ladies section at West Herts Golf Club is an exciting, fun and vibrant group offering opportunities for all members to play fun golf, competitive golf, team events or just for a casual game of golf with friends.
Ladies Day is on a Thursday morning when tee times are reserved from 9.30am. Regular morning slots are also allocated on Saturdays or Sundays for Ladies to play at the weekend, which might be either social or competitive golf. In addition, weekly roll-up tee times are available for ladies to play friendly golf on a Tuesday at 11.30am.
We host an eclectic mix of trophies, qualifiers and fun competitions throughout the year. There are also many "any pairing" competitions (often drawn) – men, women or mixed, during the week and at the weekend.
west Herts Golf Club
West Herts Golf Course offers the opportunity to play 18, 13 or 9 holes. Of course, there is always the option to just meet for lunch or play Bridge if the weather is inclement, using our excellent lounge, dining and bar facilities!
The Club includes a variety of social golf events in the annual calendar including “roll up” events, club competitions and inter-Club matches (for juniors, ladies and men) and strong support is shown for the popular programme of non-golf social events organised by the Entertainment Committee throughout the year, both within the ladies section and for the whole membership and their families.
Our practice facilities (range, chipping area and practice green) offer the opportunity for individual practice as well as for individual or group lessons with our resident Professional.
We welcome new golfers to the Ladies Section (from beginners to the more experienced) for all membership categories, including a Blue Light Membership category for our emergency services workers. (Please see details under Membership categories). In addition, Watford residents in possession of an Everyone Active card enjoy reduced green fees (please phone the Pro Shop to book).
Using our buddy system, new members are introduced to the ladies section and the course, learn about the ladies tee times, taught how to use the booking system and the scoring system, and generally find it easier to settle into the club.
Our ladies have a full and varied schedule of competitions which includes regular Medal and Stableford Competitions and full day events of the Spring, Summer and Autumn Meetings.
West Herts prides itself on its traditions; our Lady Captain’s Prize Day and a Club Captain’s Day are focal points of the year supporting the Lady Captain and the Club Captain’s charities.
We are a very integrated club with many mixed or any pairing competitions including Texas scrambles, mixed foursomes, and other formats, which attract large entries during the week, evenings and weekends– most are drawn so just sign up to play. Our annual Club Day has morning golf (men, women and juniors) with members’ families arriving at lunch time to enjoy a BBQ, bouncy castle, a magician and many other activities.
There are two opportunities through the year to ‘show off’ West Herts to your golfing friends at the ‘Ladies Invitation Days’ – one during the week and the other held on a Saturday.
Not only do we have fun playing our own competitions, but we also enjoy playing other clubs and make many friends at these matches.
We have three competitive golf teams: the Scratch A team (which plays in the Herts Ovaltine League), the Scratch B Team, and the Pearson Team (which competes for the prestigious Pearson Trophy). These are played in league form on a home and away basis, offering you a chance to play some great courses.
We also arrange weekend and weekday friendly matches both at home and away for ladies and mixed pairings throughout the Spring, Summer and Autumn months. Just another opportunity to meet other golfers and enjoy playing other courses.
Each year our ladies take part in the prestigious ‘‘Herts Bowl’’ competition which is a major event in our calendar and is contested between five local clubs (Berkhamsted, Bushey Hall, Sandy Lodge, Porters Park and ourselves). We also enter teams in some of the Hertfordshire County competitions: the Inter-club Foursomes, the Powell Cup & De Paula Cup to name a few. The ladies also compete in the Daily Mail Foursomes, Coronation Foursomes, Ping 4 Ball Betterball and Mail on Sunday competitions, with Ladies and Junior girls competing in the County Championships.
Our very popular Ladies Open held in September each year provides an opportunity for visiting ladies to come along and enjoy our amazing course.
New members are always welcome, whether you are new to golf or have played before, if you are interested in joining please contact either our ladies secretary (firstname.lastname@example.org) or the General Manager (email@example.com) and we will be delighted to show you our course, clubhouse and practice facilities.
